About the Breed

Meet the Easter Egger:

With their scruffy cheeks, chipper personalities, and rainbow-colored eggs, Easter Egger chickens are the quirky artists of the coop! Each one looks a little different—and lays eggs that can surprise you in every shade from blue and green to pink, olive, or even pale tan.

History:

“Easter Egger” isn’t an official breed, but rather a mix of breeds. The result? A friendly, hearty chicken with unique looks and colorful eggs, bred mostly for fun and function—not for show standards. Backyard chicken lovers fell in love with their surprise factor, and the rest is history!

Egg Facts:

Each Easter Egger lays about 180–230 eggs per year, but here’s the fun part—no two hens are guaranteed to lay the same color! One might lay sky blue eggs, another mint green, and another a light brownish pink. Whatever the shade, the eggs are medium to large and beautiful.

Size & Build:

Easter Egger chickens are medium-sized, with hens averaging 4.5–6 lbs. Their looks vary wildly—some have tufts, muffs, beards, or clean faces. Feather colors range from buff and black to speckled, striped, or laced. Think of them as the "freestyle fashionistas" of the flock.

Weather Hardiness:

Thanks to their mixed heritage, Easter Eggers are very hardy in both cold and warm climates. Their pea combs help prevent frostbite, and their sturdy builds make them well-suited to backyard life across the U.S.

Personality:

Easter Eggers are typically sweet, friendly, and curious—great for families and kids! They’re not usually aggressive and tend to be good-natured with other chickens. They may be a bit shy at first, but once comfortable, they’ll follow you around like feathered detectives.

So if you’re dreaming of a colorful egg basket and a flock full of personality, the Easter Egger chicken is your gal (or pal). They're not about fitting into any mold—they're here to brighten your coop, make you smile, and lay a little surprise every time.
