History:
Parcell Farms Moss Eggers aren’t a standardized breed, but a hybrid created by back crossing an olive egger hen with a Maran Rooster. This deeper genetic pairing enhances the variety of green hues possible—from medium green to deep moss. Depending on how the shell genes combine from this pairing, it may also produce the occasional brown or brown-tinted egg.
Size & Build:
These birds are usually medium to large, with hens weighing around 5.5–7 lbs. Because they’re hybrids, their appearance can vary: feather colors may be black, brown, blue, or even barred, and some have adorable fluffy muffs and beards while others have a sleeker look.
Weather Hardiness:
Moss Eggers are generally hardy and adaptable, thanks to their mixed genetics. Most have pea combs, which are excellent for cold climates, and they do just fine in warmer areas too. All they need is a cozy coop and a bit of shade, and they’re good to go!
