Important Information

We believe in being transparent about the realities of hatching shipped eggs.

Hatching eggs are fragile and sensitive to handling, temperature changes, and incubation practices.

Because of this:

Hatch rates are not guaranteed

Fertility and viability cannot be guaranteed

Results vary based on incubation methods and conditions

What to Expect

Shipped hatching eggs typically have lower hatch rates than locally sourced eggs due to:

Transit movement and vibration

Temperature fluctuations

Incubation variables

Many customers achieve successful hatches with proper setup, care, and attention to incubation conditions. An incubation guide is included with every order to help support your success.

Meet the Magical & Rare Ayam Cemani

With their inky black feathers that shimmer with iridescence in the sun, Ayam Cemani chickens are sleek, rare, and absolutely stunning! But what really sets them apart? These little beauties are black inside and out—feathers, beak, comb, skin, meat, and even bones! It's all thanks to a genetic trait called fibromelanosis, which causes hyperpigmentation.

At Parcell Farms, our Ayam Cemani are selectively bred with a focus on strong fibromelanistic expression, correct body type, and the overall traits that make this breed so striking and distinctive.

We are currently working with F1-F3 generations and carefully selected lines that show strong potential for clean expression, with no leakage or mulberry coloring in the comb, along with pairings selected for correct body type. However, there is always a chance that recessive traits may still come through in offspring.

History:Originating from Indonesia, Ayam Cemani chickens have been around for centuries and were once considered sacred birds. In Javanese culture, they were believed to have spiritual powers and were often used in rituals. Even today, they carry an aura of mystery and elegance that makes them beloved by chicken enthusiasts and collectors around the world.

Egg Facts:

While they’re more famous for their appearance than productivity, Ayam Cemani typically lay around 80–120 light cream-colored eggs per year. Despite the common myth, their eggs are not black—but their rarity and striking presence make every egg feel special.

Size & Build:

Ayam Cemani chickens are medium-sized, with roosters averaging around 4.5–6.5 lbs and hens coming in a bit lighter at 3.5–4.5 lbs. Despite their dark demeanor, they’re gentle and friendly birds, often surprisingly calm and affectionate. We have observed that our hens in particular are very chatty, and love when you have a conversation with them.

Weather Hardiness:These gorgeous birds are tropical natives, so they thrive best in warm, moderate climates. They can handle cooler temperatures if properly cared for, but they really shine when basking in sunny weather. Just be sure to give them some shade—their black feathers can soak up heat quickly.

Fun Fact:Even though they look like little goth chickens, Ayam Cemani are social and very active, often forming close bonds with their flock.

Whether you're adding some exotic flair to your backyard coop or simply admiring their mythical vibe, the Ayam Cemani is a one-of-a-kind bird that’s as fascinating as it is beautiful.

Perfect for collectors, enthusiasts, and anyone looking to add something truly rare and unforgettable to their flock.
